A diagram demostrating the technique to visualize the IVC by ultrasound in a longitudinal section following damage control surgery with abdominal packing. The skin was closed with towel clips following abdominal packing without closure of the fascia. A small print convex array probe with low frequency (2–5 MHz) should be used. The probe is located at the right mid-clavicular line (MCL) at the lower chest wall vertical to the skin. H = location of the head
